You only have 10 minutes to present before your Chamber group, networking organization or BNI (Business Networking International) group. You've never spoken before a group of diverse business peers before and don't know where to start. If you do your job well, you'll be well-remembered and well thought-of, but if you don't...don't worry - you'll do fine, as long as you don't turn your presentation into a sales pitch and you practice what you're going to say beforehand.
Ten minute presentations can help build your platform, and they can establish your credibility and visibility in your profession, as long as you don't sell directly to your audience. Of course we're all in business to make money, but instead of throwing everyone a sales pitch you need to choose a topic that will engage your audience that will prompt them to ask you questions. Your networking peers will then refer people to you who have questions without the fear of being "pushed" into anything. You want to be known as the go-to expert in your field and the resource who helps other people find answers to their problems. You don't want to have the reputation as the pushy person who keeps hounding you for a sale. Maybe people within your group will buy once from you, but they won't send you outside referrals and they won't become repeat customers.
What Should I Talk About?
You should present a topic that you care about and that's important to people in need of your product or service. You will find these topics by researching blogs in your field, by attending presentations, by conversing with experts in your field and by reading the business section of the newspaper. Have a folder on your desk that is your "idea factory" where you place your topic ideas on slips of paper. Build a habit of carrying around a notepad or index cards (this is good for the car) on which you jot down ideas as they hit you or when you're on the phone with colleagues or clients. Many professionals swear by using a digital tape recorder and they speak into it when an idea hits them.
As you're preparing your talk, also prepare a bio that is three to four sentences long. Talk about your experience in your field, your education, where you grew up and what you makes you different from others in your field. Give your bio to whoever is in charge of introducing you so they are prepared and can give you an enthusiastic welcome to your group.
It's also helpful to write up a handout with bullet points along with your contact information so your group can take notes and has a handy reference sheet to take home with them. Pass this handout out before you begin speaking and copy it on colored paper to make it more eye-catching.
Presentation Tips
When you do get an idea, make sure that your idea is not too big for the presentation. The way to counter going over your time is to give five or seven tips to share with your audience. Use five index cards, write on both sides if you need to and practice your talk before the mirror. Time yourself! Did you go over ten minutes? Did you stumble on passages or specific words?
When it is time to give your talk, relax! You're among peers who want you to succeed! Remember to smile, maintain eye contact and pause for taking a breath so your voice doesn't become small and thin. When you're finished, know that you are well on your way to give more talks and increase your visibility. Now that your peers know your expertise, they'll be able to give stronger referrals, which will ultimately lead to more business. Congratulations and now prepare for your next ten minute talk!

The crawler loader joins the stability of crawler tractors by the capabilities of a wheel loader. Tough constructing a consistent crawler loader will require not just as simple as the attachment of a loader bucket into the crawler tractor. It has to be designed due to its exact aim in mind in order to ensure that it has the power to resist heavy digging.
The presentation of hydraulic diggers reduced the sales of the crawler loader since it was not able to match the lifting power and elasticity of the excavator. On the other hand, crawler loader is capable to maneuver across the whole construction area under its power, while nearly all hydraulic excavators need transport or towing. Though crawler tractors today are still being produced for markets, they have attained their crest of fame in 1960s. New crawler tractors were built as incorporated units to give the exact balance and power for excavation. In the part of 1930s, loader accessories were being built for tractors. Unable to carry huge loads, buckets were manipulated by plain cables and fasteners.
One of the original companies which designed the crawler loader scoops was Milwaukee-based Trackson Co. It was founded in 1922 and they began to design tractor machines for Caterpillar in 1936. One year later, Trackson had built an attachment loader operated by vertical-lift cable designed exclusively for Cat tractors. Together, with tractor and loader, they were labeled "Traxcavators." These grave attachments were mounted above the tractor hood, which create a quite unstable machine. The original shovels have capability ranging from one half cubic yard up to two cubic yards. They were regulated from the power take-off of the tractor by series winches and cables.
The insinuation of hydraulics onto Trackson loader accessories was received by great support. Caterpillar appreciated much of the hydraulic changes that it purchased in19 51 the Trackson Co., adopting the name Traxcavator for all the crawler loaders. Soon, Caterpillar made a decision that the best way to produce a truthfully dependable machine specifically for the intention of heavy excavation by creating loader from the earth up. In 1953, No. 6 Traxcavator was released by Caterpillar as the original incorporated hydraulic creep loader.
While Caterpillar and Trackson were considered pioneers in the industry, there were some companies which realized the potential of the machine. Tractomotive Corp., based in Chicago, designed the original hydraulically powered buckets in 1946. Allis-Chalmers in the end bought the Tractomotive and continued to manufacture many of the biggest crawler tractors.
In 1970s, the complete varieties of hydraulics were instituted with the opening of hydrostatic motors onto crawler tractors. Though hydraulic loaders have eliminated winches and cables, hydrostatic motors detached the navigation brakes, clutches, transmission and drivetrains. All controls were now performed by two plain joysticks, one for tractor and the other one for loader.
Crawler LoaderUnlimited mileage truck rental services are designed for people who need to travel a long distance (or make lots of short trips) without the need to worry about excess mileage charges. This can make it easy and stress free to transport your load, at the same time as saving you money and solving your transport needs!
When booking a truck for hire it helps to do so in advance to make sure the date is free. Do a little research to find the best deals. Those trucks that come with unlimited mileage are particularly useful for those traveling long distances, though not all rental services will offer this service. This is why you may have to call around a number of different businesses before finding one you want to book with. Write down the best quotes and be prepared to negotiate!
When you are searching for truck rental quotes you should use this as an opportunity to ask about terms and any policies. For example, you may not have a valid license to drive the truck yourself, so you might have to pay extra for a driver provided by the rental company. Also make sure you know how long you can rent the truck for, the maximum loading capacity of the truck and any other important information you want to know.
Unlimited mileage truck rental services are a great way of avoiding extra fees depending on how far you are going to be traveling. Finding a rental company that offers everything you need can really help make transporting your load/s go ahead without any stress!
Unlimited Mileage Truck RentalCloud Computing is the use of common software, functionality add-ins, or business applications from a remote server that is accessed via the Internet. Basically, the Internet is the "cloud" of applications and services that are available for access by subscribers utilising a modem from their computer. With Cloud Computing, one simply logs into desired computer applications - such as sales force or office automation programs, web services, data storage services, spam filtering, or even blog sites. Generally, access to such programs is by monthly or annual paid subscription. Through Cloud Computing, businesses may prevent financial waste, better track employee activities, and avert technological headaches such as computer viruses, system crashes, and loss of data.
Without Cloud Computing, a business must generally house one or more computer servers, from which all employees access the company's licensed programs. Through Cloud Computing, the servers which house the software are entirely off-site, with program usage licensed on an as-needed basis through subscription. This may bring down the cost per employee, in that access through a Cloud will generally be more cost effective than purchase of in-house licenses and hardware, and subscriptions are scalable per actual need. Thus, with software pay-per-use, savings are realised from the avoidance of extraneous software licenses and more immediate access to additional programs is possible almost at a whim, without having to go through the upload process on the IT side, as required for in-house servers.
Cloud Computing programs offer great manageability and oversight, from the employee supervision standpoint. Particularly in sales force automation, wherein tracking the activities of a sales team and resulting data can be critical to the success and continuance of a company, being able to obtain a quick view of an employee's work is both time saving (in reporting) and financially beneficial. Whilst also enabling the sharing of information company-wide, allowing the entire organisation awareness of company objectives and individual and team progress.
As is apparent in any company of one or more employees, modern organisations are at the mercy of their information servers. What once occupied tens to thousands of square feet of company real estate in file cabinets and storage boxes - all of the intellectual property of a company or brand - is now held within the confines of our most critical piece of the company: our servers. These servers are prone to technological failure, crashes, and viral vulnerabilities. Not only can we suffer damages at the mercy of a virus, but we may also spread that damage to organisations with whom we do business.
Through Cloud Computing, programs are contained, troubleshooted, and maintained entirely off-site from the company subscriber. Thus, businesses lose less time from system outages, maintenance, and data loss. Much less frequently does a business need to concern itself with viruses, Trojans, or other threats.
Noted disadvantages to Cloud Computing are: reliance upon network connectivity, peripheral communication (or lack thereof), legal issues (ownership of data), and absence of a hard drive. The most obvious of the negative concerns is the network connectivity. If the network goes down for any reason, the company loses access to Cloud Computing applications, data and services. Of course, there can be temporary use of off-site or wireless connections, but for a company focused on forward momentum, a technical issue such as this can be a daunting risk. Generally such issues are very short-lived and can be immediately addressed through the company's network provider.
The second concern today is communication of peripheral and connected devices. Before plunging into Cloud Computing full force, one must ensure that the organisation's devices will all communicate and work well with Cloud applications. This is primarily just an issue with lesser known or older technologies, printers, and devices. Most mainstream devices communicate with Cloud Computing programs and applications, as ensuring wide usability is the number one goal for those offering Cloud Computing.
When initiating sign-up or agreement for services with a Cloud Computing provider, ensuring fine print is thoroughly understood is key. A company must know its data loss variables, prior to utilising the service at full force. One major question to ask is, "Will our data be regularly backed up, and how often?" Also query whether immediate denial of service may be enacted at any time, for how long, and if so, what causes such denial. It is highly important to know what sort of "offenses" may bar you from potentially accessing your own data, as well as whether your data is truly protected in the event of system failure.
Absence of a hard drive - while very attractive at face value - can lead to some issues and concerns with Cloud Computing. Some applications (particularly in design and a more technological realm) require hardware attached to the hard drive for use. Ensure the company's necessary applications and uses for Cloud Computing do not require hardware attached to a hard drive, prior to forgoing the individual workstation hardware, altogether.
There is no denying the present and future of Cloud Computing. One of the most beneficial realms of use is telecommuting. Cloud Computing has averted the need for constant updating of work performed outside of the office, and enabled workers to log onto their everyday applications wherever they are: in the office, in the airport, at home, or even in the back seat of a car. No longer are days "out of the office" days of lost progress.
Cloud Computing will not only remain a staple in modern business, but will likely streamline organisational operations in many new ways, as well as expanding upon its current uses. Cloud Computing offers a solid answer to the ongoing question all computer users have had since the onset of the computer age, "Will our data communicate with yours?" Most major technology organisations see the bright future of this technology, and are thus throwing hundreds of millions of pounds into development and implementation of new pathways into the Cloud.

Renting a 12 seater van (often called 12 passenger vans) is a fantastic option for small groups of people that are going on holiday together or just want a fun night out. It is a much better option than piling into cars or taxis as you only need one driver and the cost is not too high. If you look in newspapers or on the internet you can find some coupon codes which will save you considerable cash on your rental. There are very few restrictions on who can rent 12 seater vans. These restrictions will be discussed in this article, followed by a list of the benefits of renting a 12 seater van.
Many van rental companies will not rent 12 seater vans to people under the age of 25, as they are the most likely to have an accident. The company would have to pay a lot to insure their vans for people under 25 years of age. A few companies do allow you to rent a van if you are between 21 and 25, although you will usually have to pay a premium for the privilege. To rent a 12 seater van you will also need a valid drivers license. If you are booking a van online you will need to have a credit card handy.
Benefits of Renting a 12 Seater Van
Plenty of room for the passengers
Luxury vans are available. These have DVD players, televisions and are usually chauffeur driven
Very easy to find great prices- just compare the deals from all the major van rental companies
Great option for kids parties. You could take them to the local zoo!
Perfect for small groups of people traveling together

The Elf on the Shelf Christmas and Elf Magic traditions are sweeping the nation -- for good reason. They offer a delightful way to build excitement for the holidays, and keep children on their best behavior. Here is how they work.
The "official" Elf on the Shelf, Elf Magic Elf or a another elf, arrives at your home early in the Christmas season to spend the holidays with your family.
Each night the Elf on a Shelf returns to the North Pole, while your children are sleeping, to report to Santa regarding their behavior.
While the Elf on the Shelf Elves have a more staid reputation, the Elf Magic Elves are a mischievous bunch, and have a tendency to make a mess or pull a crazy stunt while everyone is asleep. Your kids will love to wake up each morning and see what trouble the Elf got into the night before.
Here are ten ideas found around the internet and from local families to inspire your elf:
Elves Love to Do What Your Kids Love To Do
Elves adapt quickly to a household, and many mornings are found busy with the favorite activities of the kids who live there. Reading favorite books, playing games (including the Wii or Nintendo DS), having a tea party with best-loved dolls, and riding skateboards are all favorite Elf past times.
Elves Are Into Computers and Social Media
Elves in homes with teens have been known to have email, Facebook and Twitter accounts to keep an online eye on the kids and send funny emails, status updates and tweets. Many elves also seem to surf the internet late at night, finding fun new sites for the kids to enjoy.
Elves Love to be in Pictures
Apparently, Elves are very good at self portraits. Many families have found their digital cameras full of pictures of their Elves in all kinds of crazy poses.
Elves Often Have A Driver's License
If an Elf cannot be found in the morning, the car is the first place to look. Elves are often found in the driver's seat, sitting on a stack of pillows or books. The car may be parked backwards or in a crazy position, and in some cases even down the street or in a neighbor's driveway. Typically, Christmas music is blaring through the speakers and the gas tank is mysteriously closer to empty than before.
Elves Write in Journals
Elves and children often learn more about each other and build bonds by writing letters back and forth. Some Elves arrive with a festively decorated journal to keep all the correspondence in one place. It has been rumored that some Elves only write backwards, so children must hold the note up to the mirror to read it. A few are conversant in Pig Latin or other codes that older kids must decipher.
Elves Tell Potty Jokes, Too
Bathroom humor spans all languages and species. Elves love to turn the toilet water green (with food coloring), decorate Christmas trees in underwear, toilet paper kids rooms or whole houses, and write on bathroom mirrors with mom's lipstick.
Elves Spell Their Names - Everywhere!
Each Elf has a name. Some are named by the children they watch. Others arrive with a note introducing the Elf. Either way, all Elves seem to love to leave their signature as often as possible. Maybe the Elf's name is written in Cheerios, flour, or chocolate syrup on the counter. Other times in toothpaste on the bathroom mirror. Best of all, in food coloring on freshly fallen snow.
Elves Love Things That Remind Them of Home
Cotton ball snowball fights are a favorite past time of elves. Also, Elves often make elf sized snow angels. If real snow is not available, then Insta-Snow or flour make good substitutes. A favorite game for Elves is Candy Lane. If the house does not already have a copy, Elves have been known to bring one from the North Pole as an early Christmas gift.
Elves Do Not Always Come Alone
What could be better than an Elf on the Shelf? Several Elves, of course. That means the mischief can multiply and children awake to elaborate scenes of Elf mayhem. Maybe a poker game or baseball or football match or a play with Elves in costume (borrowed from other dolls).
Elves Play With Their Neighbor Elves
So many families have their own Elf on a Shelf during the holidays that Elves join with neighbor Elves to increase the fun. Many neighbor elves have been waiting together at the bus stop for their children to arrive. Other Elves host a Christmas party for neighborhood kids.
As you can see, the possibilities are endless for your elf tradition. Happy Holidays!

Teen car insurance is a must, almost obligatory to protect both car and the teen. It is true that adding a teen in the insurance policy increases the premium for obvious reasons.
oThe very high rate of drivers under 20 involved in accidents.
oThe sense of irresponsibility and carelessness naturally found in teens.
oMathematically, premium can skyrocket from 100-500% with teens in the policy
However, that doesn't mean depriving of car keys from your teen. There are easy steps and ways to eradicate "danger "keeping the insurance rate "low" and maintaining "safety" of your teen.
1.Having a clean driving record helps a lot. Since a single DWI conviction can raise car insurance premium from base premium of few hundreds to thousands of dollars yearly.
2.A good academic record and regular high school or college going teen wins greater discounts in car insurance policy of many companies.
3.Insurance companies prefer least risking teens that show responsible behavior and in this regard some driving school certificate or some community center membership is useful in proving the teen trust able for the companies. This gets him/her discount in policy and doesn't add up burden on you as well.
4.Safe car with safety measures is a blessing for your teens. It involves automatic seat belts, impact bags, anti-lock breaks etc.
5.Teaching him/her is the best on your part. For example what to do in case of emergency or how to report a claim, how many passengers to be in the car, respecting traffic rules and how to avoid all things you did wrong being a teen and now you don't want them to do.
6.Talking of stats, teens have to pay a lot more than you do. Tell them why is this? Why do the insurance companies not trust teen drivers? So that, they can learn what not to do.
Every family deserves the best, which includes teen car insurance but safety of the family comes first and to maintain that one has to be responsible and law-abiding.
Car Insurance Costs Teens - How Much Cost For An 18 Year Old?With infidelity reaching epidemic proportions, every woman should learn how to recognize the telltale signs of infidelity. The future of your relationship could depend on your ability to spot the telltale signs of an affair in time. In view of the rapidly rising divorce rates, and current statistics showing that 50% to 70% of men cheat on their mates, if your husband is cheating, you can't afford to be the "last one to know."
Every woman's personal library should contain a relationship reference book with detailed information on how to recognize the warning signs of infidelity. "Is He Cheating On You? - 829 Telltale Signs" is a comprehensive guide which documents practically every known cheating sign. The 800+ signs of infidelity in Is He Cheating on You? are divided into 21 categories so you can easily locate the signs that apply to your mate. What's unique about the warning signs listed here is that once you know what to look for, all the signs can be easily found using only your eyes and ears, your personal knowledge of your husband, and the information provided in the book. No special skills or equipment are required.
Each of the 21 categories is explained below along with the number of telltale signs listed under that category. While some women make it a point to check each of the 21 categories, others will only check the particular categories that seem to apply to their marriage or their mate. To insure that no one overlooks an important telltale sign, about a dozen of the signs are listed in more than one category.
For example:
"He always calls a certain female to share the special events in his life."
This sign is listed under Telephone Tip-Offs and again under His Behavior Around Other Women.
"He starts showering you with gifts or buying you flowers for no special reason"
This sign is listed under How He Relates to You and also under Gifts.
"You find deposit slips in his possession for someone else's bank account."
This sign is listed under Financial Affairs as well as under Physical Evidence.
Despite the title, "Is He Cheating On You? - 829 Telltale Signs" actually contains 950 telltale signs. Additional signs were added before the final version was printed. Readers continue to send in signs they have personally discovered which did not appear in the book. These signs have been added to the e-book version of Is He Cheating on You? which is sold by Booklocker.com Details on the 21 major categories of telltale signs appear below. For additional information on signs of infidelity visit http://www.Is-He-Cheating-On-You.com Remember: you can't afford to be the last one to know. Find out before it's too late.
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE - 76 telltale signs
A man having an affair (or even thinking about having one) will want to make himself more attractive. He will begin to enhance his appearance in some way. Be alert for changes in his wardrobe, his grooming, his body, and his personal hygiene. These are usually the most visible signs of infidelity. If he embarks on a drastic self-induced makeover, it's probably not for you. More than likely he's trying to attract or impress someone else.
HOW HE RELATES TO YOU - 70 telltale signs
The way your husband relates to you can provide many telltale signs. His involvement with another woman will cause him to treat you differently -- even on a subconscious level. This is one of those areas where a wife can pick up signs of infidelity that a private investigator might otherwise overlook.
CONVERSATIONAL CLUES - 70 telltale signs
What your husband chooses or refuses to talk about can alert you to his involvement in an extramarital affair. He may mention new people, places and things, while the people, places and things he normally talks about are no longer a part of his conversation. Even his tone of voice can be an important telltale sign.
WORK HABITS - 39 telltale signs
Work is commonly used as an excuse to account for large blocks of time away from home. Men often use their jobs as a cover for their extramarital affairs. Your husband's work habits will undoubtedly change as his affair unfolds. Be on the lookout work-related telltale signs.
DAY-TO-DAY BEHAVIOR - 92 telltale signs
We are all creatures of habit. We all have a routine that we usually follow each day. A man who is cheating will display changes of some kind in his normal patterns of behavior. Pay close attention to any deviations in your husband's daily routine. These deviations are telltale signs.
FINANCIAL AFFAIRS - 52 telltale signs
Affairs cost money. If your husband has a lover, he'll want to wine her, dine her, entertain her and buy her occasional gifts. No matter how carefully he tries to cover his tracks, sooner or later this will be reflected in the family finances. Stay alert for financial signs of infidelity.
TRAVEL - 27 telltale signs
Your husband may not always be traveling for legitimate reasons. Even if he is, he may decide to combine business with a little pleasure. Travel affords a cheating unfaithful husband a unique opportunity to cheat away from prying eyes.
PERSONALITY OR BEHAVIORAL CHANGES - 36 telltale signs
Be alert for changes in your husband's attitude, personality or behavior. Whether they are drastic or subtle, changes of this type are often an indication of infidelity.
ABSENCES - 39 telltale signs
Affairs generally require a considerable amount of time. Since there are only 24 hours in a day, your husband's absences will become increasingly more frequent as he tries to steal time from other activities so he can be with his lover.
TELEPHONE TIP-OFFS - 76 telltale signs
Illicit affairs depend on repeated contact; many of which take place by phone. These telltale signs of infidelity are relatively easy to find. Many men take the risk of calling their lovers from home or having their lovers call them at home. Many wives (like me) discover their husband's infidelity either directly or indirectly by the telephone.
CAR CLUES - 40 telltale signs
Your husband's (or the family) car can be a rich source of telltale signs. The glove compartment, car seats (underneath and between), the tire well, the underside of the visor, the ashtray, the side pockets or compartments, under the floor mats and other nooks and crannies can reveal a wealth of information.
SEX - 37 telltale signs
Be alert for any type of changes in the frequency or the quality of your sex life together. Most important of all: If you suspect your husband of having an affair, take steps to protect yourself. Do not put yourself at risk for HIV/AIDS, herpes or e other sexually transmitted diseases.
EATING HABITS - 31 telltale signs
This is an area that wives usually overlook when checking for telltale signs. But your husband's eating habits can be influenced or affected by his lover. Without even realizing it, he may develop a preference for the type of food she eats, the way she likes her food prepared or the kind of restaurants in which she likes to eat. These are the types of telltale signs it would never occur to him to conceal.
SMELLS AND TASTES - 21 telltale signs
Each person has his or her own unique smell or taste. You may be oblivious to it until it becomes replaced with something else. Pay close attention if your husband smells or tastes "different," or if something in your home or car just doesn't smell "right." It may warrant closer investigation.
INVASION OF YOUR HOME - 22 telltale signs
It's not uncommon for a man who's cheating to invite his lover to his home. When this happens, it's not unheard of for lovers to leave personal items behind--sometimes deliberately, for an unsuspecting wife to find. You will usually find evidence in your bedroom or bathroom if another woman has been in your home while you were away. But telltale signs of infidelity may turn up in other areas of your home, as well.
GIFTS - 19 telltale signs
Be especially vigilant around the times of the year when gifts are usually exchanged. During the holidays and various other times throughout the year, you may find gifts or cards hidden around your home or in the car. Receipts or credit card bills for gifts may turn up shortly before or after Christmas and Valentine's Day.
COMPUTER USE - 30 telltale signs
It's common these days for a cheating husband to use e-mail to communicate with his lover. Some of the telltale signs in this category may also be an indication of his involvement in an online or cyber affair. Don't take this lightly. These affairs can be as harmful to your marriage as the real thing. Though they may not involve sexual contact, the emotional attachment can be extremely strong, and can quickly progress from cyberspace to physical reality.
CELL PHONES AND PAGERS/BEEPERS - 28 telltale signs
Today's technological advances make it easier for a husband to cheat on his wife. But it's also easier for a husband to get caught while trying to make contact or stay in touch with his lover.
PHYSICAL EVIDENCE - 32 telltale signs
Many times there's physical evidence just waiting to be found. Check your husband's wallet, his pants or jacket pockets, his desk or dresser drawers, the wastepaper basket, his closet shelves, the floor in the back of his closet, the garage, his study, filing cabinets, his workshop, his toolbox or any place else you can think of. Keep your eyes open. You'll be surprised at the kinds of physical evidence of infidelity you can find.
HIS BEHAVIOR AROUND OTHER WOMEN - 71 telltale signs
Studies show that a man is most likely to have an affair with someone he already knows--someone he comes in contact with on a regular basis - a neighbor, a coworker, a family friend or business associate. If you're observant, you may be able to determine the identity of your husband's lover by the way he behaves in her presence, or by how she behaves around him.
ACCIDENTAL SLIPS-UPS OR DISCLOSURES - 57 telltale signs
Sometimes you get lucky and find out what your husband has been up to by accident, or through some strange quirk of fate. An accidental slip-up on his part or on the part of someone else can clue you in to what's been happening behind your back.

It's important to choose a car seat designed for your child's age and weight to give him or her the best chance of escaping injury in a crash. There are three main types of car seats -- infant car seats, infant/toddler convertible car seats, and booster seats. Below are the facts about car seat options and some tips for making educated purchasing decisions for each car-seat type:
If your baby is less than a year old, he or she must ride in a rear-facing car seat.
One choice is to buy a rear-facing infant car seat (suitable for babies up to 20lbs), that will fit your baby snugly during the first few months and often comes with a handle for easy carrying. And, if you're looking for the utmost in convenience, select a travel system. Infant travel systems include a ready made car seat and stroller combination.
The downside to the infant car seat is that you'll spend to 0 on the seat and your child will outgrow it in 6 months to a year. You'll have to upgrade to a convertible car seat once your baby reaches 20 lbs. If this is a concern for you, you can buy a convertible car seat that will face the rear for your newborn and can turn around to face the front for your baby once he or she reaches 20 lbs.
However, some parents feel that their newborn is "swimming" in a convertible car seat and prefer to use an infant car seat until their baby gets big enough to sit in a front-facing car seat.
No matter what you decide to use for your infant, you'll eventually need a convertible car seat.
Regardless of the choice you make as to whether to use a convertible car seat from day one or use an infant car seat until your baby weighs 20 lbs, you'll need to buy a convertible car seat at some point. Convertible car seats are larger than infant-only car seats and are designed to grow with your child through the toddler years. Most convertible car seats fit babies up to 40 lbs (usually around age 4) and some convert to a booster car seat and are safe for children up to 80 lbs.
Convertible car seats range in price from to 0.
For toddlers weighing more than 40 lbs and big kids, you'll need a booster car seat.
Booster car seats are designed for children age 3 or older who weigh at least 40 lbs. They are designed to use your car's lap and shoulder seat belts. They literally boost your child into a position that makes it safe to use the car's seat belt system.
Booster car seats are essential to your child's safety because using your car's seat belts on a child without a booster seat can actually cause injury. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends that children who've outgrown their convertible car seats use a booster car seat until they are 8 years old and 4 feet 9 inches tall.
Some booster seats provide back support and you should choose one of these options if your vehicle seat is low or has no head restraint. A backless option is fine for vehicle seats that offer plenty of support behind the head.

But in these budget conscious times, you may be tempted to replace those tatty seats yourself. It doesn't cost a lot of money and could be just what your truck needs. You may not do as good a job as the professionals but it will probably still look better than the old ones. Go and pick out some fabric. The type you chose will depend on your personal taste and your sewing skills. Velvet might be a good choice as it is fairly forgiving of the amateur sewer. It is also comfortable to sit on and fairly durable although it has to be said, it doesn't mix well with wet weather or dogs!
Whatever material you chose will have to be cut and sewn to size. One way of doing this is to take apart the existing covering and using this as a pattern. It is not ideal as you may transfer stretching and other irregularities to the new covers but it may be the only way you can manage to do it.
If this all seems like too much work, you could consider just adding new seat covers. Most car models are provided for as it is important that you pick the correct shape and fit. Otherwise they will look dreadful. The custom seat covers will take account of the shape of the seat, the head rests and the seat controls. They are a very economical way to improve the appearance of your car although if you are renovating a very old model car you may not be able to find a custom fit.

Infant seats are designed for the comfort of newborns, and can be used from an infant's birth until the infant reaches a weight of approximately 20 pounds (depending on the model of the seat). These seats are designed to be used in a rear facing position, with the infant riding in a lying down position, and with the seat, itself, secured either by the car's seat belts or a special anchoring system, and the infant secured in the seat by a harness. This arrangement provides the infant with the best protection while riding in a vehicle. Infant seats come in a variety of designs, colors, and patterns, and their cost and available features vary by brand and model. Child car seat manufacturers are bound by very strict guidelines, and you may be surprised to find that some of the more expensive seats don't provide any better level of protection than those which are more moderately priced.
There are also 'convertible' infant/toddler seats available. These seats can be used for children from infancy (with the seat in the rear facing position), into their toddler years (with the seat turned around and used in the forward facing position), until they are ready for a booster seat. In the rear facing mode, these types of seats can typically be used with a child up to about 25 lbs, and then used in the forward facing position until the child reaches about 40 lbs. These types of seats have a larger seat than an infant only car seat, and many come with padded inserts for use when the child is still small.
Whichever type of seat is used, the seat's harness should fit the child snugly, but not too tightly, and the harness straps should be easily adjustable. Many of the newer models feature a 'five point' harness to keep the child secure. The straps should be long enough both to allow room for the bulkier clothing that the child will wear in colder weather, as well as to allow for the child's continuing growth, so that he or she will not outgrow the car seat prematurely.
There are a variety of accessories available for many models of seats for infants. A common accessory is a head rest for the infant. This is a small inverted U shaped piece that helps keep the infant's head secure, and prevents him or her from slumping over in the car seat while riding.
Some seats have a detachable base that stays in the vehicle, and to which the part of the seat that the child sits in can be locked. With this type of seat, the base must be set properly in place before the other piece is locked to it, or the combination will not provide the child with the highest level of protection. Extra bases may be available for purchase to allow the same carrier to be used in multiple vehicles without having to keep shifting the base between the vehicles. Also, some seats are compatible with strollers, to create a convenient infant travel system.
Choosing an Infant Car Seat - How to Help Ensure Your Child's Comfort and SafetyWow! Janet and I will soon be proud grandparents of a beautiful child, a gift from the loving union of our daughter, Sharon, and her husband, Greg. Who knew there would be so more to learn. And re-learn about the care of baby and children! So much to consider and prepare before the baby arrives. Every parent and grandparent must be diligent in ensuring safety first for their grandchildren.
Auto Travel - don't even think of taking your little munch-kin or grand-child for that quick trip to the corner store without first ensuring that your child/baby car restraint seat is properly installed.
But I installed the Car Seat according the the manufacturer's User's Manual. It's installed properly! Think again!
Those manuals don't always give you the complete picture for best car seat installation. Seek additional help from websites like NHTSA - National Highway Transportation Safety Association and Transport Canada. Watch your newspaper, local TV, or listen to local radio for regularly scheduled Car Seat Clinics coordinated by your local emergency response, fire or police. Or visit a Child Safety Seat Inspection Station near you. Whether as a parent and as a new grand-parent, you owe it to your child or grand-child to ensure that they are properly secured in any vehicle that transports them.
I recently attended such a Car Seat Clinic with my soon-to-deliver daughter. We took my vehicle - BUT YOU SHOULD TAKE ALL Vehicles that will transport this precious human cargo. The 1 hour spent installing, and re-installing, the infant seat in my back seat proved how little I knew about proper Car Seat Installation. The Emergency Response pros at this free clinic were diligent in ensuring a number of crucial installation elements:
1) infant seats must be installed in the rear-facing position in the rear seat of the car. Not! Not every should you install an infant or child restraint system in the front seat ! Repeat NEVER!
2) seat MUST be secured with the car seat belt system or to factory installed UAS anchor bars (restraint clips tucked between the seat back and the seat itself and marked with a visible symbol). UAS anchor bars are in all cars built since September 1, 2002. All car new car seats have 2 USA Connectors compatible with this child restraint system. And it is not just a simple click and quick tug of the belt that will do. It will take ALL your adult weight and strength to bear-down on the car seat and pull tight the seat belt or anchor straps. It might even take TWO adults to perform this more-than-snug feat. You will significantly compress the pad of your rear seat. It is only right if there is no side to side movement in the secured seat.
Observation: I took two adults to perform this task at the car seat clinic. Be warned that releasing the web strap may also require two adults: One to bear down on the seat to relieve some of the tension on the straps and, the Other to relax the web strap and undo the clip from the UAS anchor. Be patient.
3) The rear facing seat, once tightly secured (compressed into the rear seat), should have the back of the seat at a 45 degree angle. This is important 45 degrees. This properly supports your infant's head and neck should there be a collision. Those miracle floating noodles were cut, fitted and inserted between the car seat base and the rear of the seat bottom to get the compressed angle right. It took 4 installs and 3 noodles, secured with dust tape, to provide the correct 45 degree angle.
4) The rear facing seat MUST not touch the back of the front seat. Allow at least a 1 inch gap between the infant seat back and the back of the car front seat.
Learn how to properly install the infant or child car seat in EVERY vehicle where the car seat will be placed. Do it RIGHT. A young life depends on it!

Having window tint professionally installed onto your vehicle will provide you with a stylish and sleek look. But having your car windows tinted will also serve a more useful purpose: protecting the interior of your vehicle. This is especially beneficial if your car has leather seats. Leather will eventually become brittle and crack if it is exposed to sunlight for too long. Protecting your car's interior with tinted windows can significantly prolong the life of your leather upholstery and trim, which will improve the resale value of the vehicle.
Leather seats are abundant in luxury cars and SUVs. These vehicles cost a lot of money, so it would be wise to protect your investment by shielding the interior of your vehicle from harmful UV rays. UV rays will not only cause the leather to dry out and crack, but it can also fade the color of your interior, including carpeting, fabrics and plastic trim.
Without tinted car windows, you and your passengers risk being burned by the super-heated leather seats on a hot day. Everyone has entered a vehicle after it had been sitting in the sun for a while. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause the leather interior to become so hot that it can actually cause severe burns to the driver or passengers. When your vehicle windows are professionally tinted, your interior will have protection from direct sunlight and the leather will not be able to reach such a dangerous temperature.
Furthermore, tinted windows can protect your vehicle by warding off break-ins. Criminals will not want to break into a vehicle if they can't see what's inside. While you should never leave valuables in your car, having tinted windows will provide the necessary privacy you need for your belongings. Thieves will be deterred from breaking into your car simply because they can't see through the window tinting.
You should always hire a professional window tinting company to install your window tints. They have the equipment to do the job correctly and have years of experience installing window tint on all types of vehicles. The do-it-yourself kits should be avoided - especially if you have no experience installing window tints - because often times they result in air bubbles and a tint that will only last a few years.
Every state has laws regulating the tint darkness grade allowable. Bring your vehicle to a reputable automotive tinting shop and they will be able to offer your window tinting solutions that are within the boundaries of your state's laws.
Protect your vehicle and your leather interior with professional automotive window tinting. You can keep your car private, cool and shielded from dangerous UV rays - all while giving your vehicle a classic and sleek look.
